Saphire Group’s Architectural Metalwork Division have successfully secured the “Stairs & Balustrades” trade package at Abingdon School, following a competitive tender.
The Feature Staircase is the star of the show, with 15mm thick laser cut saw tooth profile stringers. 10mm steel pans support Douglas Fir treads & landings. The whole structure will hang from the 1st & 2nd floor slabs above on stainless steel tension bars. Traditional vertical bar balustrades with Oak handrails complete the stairs.
The staircase design is being modelled in 3D now, with an anticipated on site start date of December 2014.

1st January 2015 Deadline for Phase Out of R22 Refrigerant
A/C & Refrigeration Services
From 1st January 2015 it will be illegal to use any HCFC’s to service (RAC) refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment. Recycled or reclaimed HCFC may no longer be used.
Sectors at greatest risk include the food and drink industry, petro-chemicals, pharmaceuticals, health, retail, hospitality, finance and data-processing. Typical applications can vary widely, but examples include refrigeration systems in supermarkets, blast chillers, cold stores and process coolers and many types of building air-conditioning as well as in transport refrigeration. Many of these applications are absolutely critical to the continued operation of their owner’s business.
Given that most (RAC) refrigeration and air-conditioning systems leak to a certain degree, in practical terms this implies that any equipment that is of strategic importance to a business should not be using HCFCs by 1st January 2015 so all current users of HCFC systems must develop a plan to manage their operations without HCFCs. Doing nothing is not a sustainable option. Given the serious implications and
Saphire Group received a letter of thanks from Carillion Health for undertaking a reactive maintenance task during a busy period at GWH Great Western Hospital during the day.

Viridor, a leading waste-management company, tasked Saphire Group to replace HDPE (high-density polyethylene) pipework at its site in Devon.
Saphire Group replaced the pipework with all stainless-steel pipes and fittings, which we welded in our workshop. Our team also supplied and installed Bray valves.
The pictured galvanised tee piece was fitted in place of a pipe, complete with valve. We welded the mild steel sections in our workshop, then sent them to a galvaniser for hot dipping.
As shown, we built a base for a free-issue fan, then installed it onsite. The flow from the existing gas train to the pump came from the newly installed tee piece.
Saphire Group have replaced two 30-year-old Danks of Netherton steam boilers for TE Connectivity UK Ltd. In their place, we have installed two new Cochran steam boilers, each weighing over ten tonnes.
Planning the removal and installation carefully was critical. As the boiler house is adjacent to the company’s restaurant and pedestrian walkways, health and safety was our main concern.
Following several weeks of careful planning, Saphire Group dismantled overhead gantries and high-level services. From there, a thirty-tonne crane removed the old boilers, placing them on lorries for disposal. Completed on time and budget, without risking people and property, the project was a big success.
